PERSONAL STATEMENT

All the Details

I love games. Games are truly an amazing medium there are so many experiences and so much fun to be had therefore I have a passion for games and it would be a dream come true if I could become a game developer, so when I saw that my college offers a digital media/game design course I jumped at the opportunity and I can now say that it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
My interest in computers has led me to seek out knowledge in my own time and this has allowed me to build my own pc out of parts I handpicked. I got an A* in ICT at GCSE and I am currently predicted a D*D* in digital media this is not only because of my proficiency of the subject also because I have a spent a lot of time outside of school getting familiar with 3d modelling software such as 3ds max and unreal engine, I have uploaded the models I make to sketch fab this not only allows me to show off my models but also to sell them and as of now I have made two sales on my models. I have also worked with an AR app developer Augmentifyit they have made a multi-award-winning AR app that combines a science quiz with Augmented reality I made the 3d models for their periodic table quiz, I even got to go to the London toy fair to show off the product the product has now won the bronze award for the best science toy 2018 in the MFM Toy Awards. This experience gave me an insight into the world of work and the ability to work with tight deadlines with a client brief. My secondary school work experience I worked at a nursery which not at all related to what I want to do in the future. In fact, after the first day I thought to myself I really don’t want to go back to that place ever again but despite my not enjoying it in the slightest I still arrived on time every day for the next two weeks and completed every task to the best of my ability. In the end, I didn’t enjoy the work any more than I did but I did feel an immense sense of accomplishment as I had been completely out of my comfort zone and remained persistent and saw it through to the end. I think that this trait of sticking to the end even when things get difficult is very important for a game developer. I am not naive to think that this is an easy field and I have heard and read accounts of game developers dealing with crunch and harsh deadline and despite this, I know that I have what it takes to deal with this kind of stress. I believe I have skills that would make me effective for this course. I am a critical thinker and a great problem solver this is demonstrated by my engineering and maths qualifications as well as my love for science. In my engineering A level, we have done a lot of teamwork and this gave me a chance to work in a team and in a leadership role while manufacturing a product under a strict deadline.
I have also taken on an EPQ qualification, in which I made a stop motion animation which has been a hobby of mine for about 6 years and took me a whole year to finish the animating, video editing, special effects and voice acting of the video and then finally upload it to YouTube where it has now earned brickfilm of the month I the world by the brickfilm guild! After all of this though I did a presentation talking about how I made the animation and this experience was good for me as I learned that I am good at public speaking when I am talking about something I truly enjoy. And of course, my love for animating, building and cinematography strengthen my ambition for game design.
In conclusion then, I am an honest, hardworking person that enjoys working with likeminded people, but above all real interest in my subjects and will take them home with me and learn in my own time and for all these reasons I know that I am fit for this course and if I am lacking in a particular area I will do all that I can to better my self.
